Costume makeup

I’ve always loved makeup, but I’ve really only done it on myself before. This fall and spring I joined my school drama club and did the costumes and makeup for the actors. Most of the girls knew how to makeup their faces, but the boys were clueless.

A friend of mine created a short film and needed makeup done so he asked me to help out. I was a little nervous because I’ve never done costume makeup on other people but Pinterest helped me out a lot. He wanted a look that was half cyborg, half geisha, super weird I know. Anyway, the end turned out really well!

Here’s the robot side

For the base silver color I used my Tarte pallet, I used smoke and mirrors (bottom left) and Slate bells ring (2nd column on left). Then for his highlight I used my bare minerals glitter shadow. I drew on the black lines with bare minerals black powder eyeliner. Last, the “screws” were done with my Ulta sparkle gel liner.

The white is actually all talcum powder. To get the powder to stick to his face, I applied his Neutrogena foundation really tacky so that the powder had something to hold on to. It took a while to get the pigment and fully even, but the end result turned out well.

Finally, here’s the final view

His eyes are lined with Jordana liner and he’s wearing Revlon red lipstick.

I had a lot of fun doing this makeup and I hope I have the chance to do more stuff like it!

Girlboss; a review

Sophia Amoruso became one of my biggest inspirations about 3 years ago when I first read her book #Girlboss. I absolutely loved the book and was so inspired by her lifestyle and rise to power through the internet. The book was filled with life and business tips, gave an extremely real view on life. Now, Netflix has created a series based on the book (and therefor Sophia’s life) and so far I really like it!

The show starts later in Sophia’s life than the book so I feel it might have left out some of her history, but I’m really hoping that in the coming episodes they address her past more. I think Britt Robertson is really great as Sophia and really captures the driven energy I felt when reading the book. I’ve never been to San Francisco but the show shot the city beautifully and shows how much inspiration can be found in one city. I’m only on episode 5 but I’m really excited to keep watching and see Sophia’s life played out in another way.

Here’s a fun review of the show (with no spoilers!)

Buy the book!! It’s totally worth it!!

Staycation

Lots of school’s have off this week or the week following for Spring break. Though of course everyone wants to have that perfect tropical crazy spring break week, that is not the realistic case for most teens. Despite this, you can still have tons of fun! Here are some ideas on how to spend your week off.

Throw a party

It doesn’t have to be for anything, it can just be for fun! If you or one of your friends has a big backward, set it up with balloons, tables of food, and games. Order in from your favorite restaurant, have everyone bring food like a potluck, or even set tables up like a buffet. The options for food are endless. Make a theme and have everyone dress up or just make it casual. Your party should be about having fun with your friends and spending your spring break with people who make you happy.

Do a project

Whether its ¬†painting, filming a movie, knitting, cooking, drawing, or sewing, find a hobby and dedicate your time to it. Find something that interests you that you don’t normally have time to do and run with it. Be your most creative and expressive self because you have all the time in the world! After the week is up you will have learned or improved a new skill and will have something to show for it! (That’s way better than a tan, right?)

Go for a hike

Hopefully if the weather is nice you will take the time to explore the great outdoors. I am lucky enough to have 2 hiking reserves close to me, but if you don’t maybe make a day trip out of driving to a really cool hiking reserve. If you life in a big city where there are no trees in sight, go to a park! Take time to smell the flowers and enjoy the fresh air.

Have a photoshoot

Get together with a bunch of friends, find a cool location or make a backdrop, grab some props and have fun! Creating a photoshoot is a way to express tons of creativity and personality, plus if gives you plenty of Instagram material!

Go on a day trip

Find a museum in your area or an exhibit you want to check out. Go with your friends or your family, and make a day out of it. Find a cool place for lunch and take lots of pictures of everything you see. TimesSquareSummer_460x285

Hope you all have an excellent break!
