Graduation dresses

Graduation is right around the corner! It’s a time for celebrating knowledge, freedom, and the future. I am so excited to go to college and learn new things, but I’m also excited for the ceremony. Many girls take this as an opportunity to wear something cute under their robes, often choosing the color white. As much as I like white dresses (they always look so fresh and clean) there are so many other options! Don’t be afraid to go out of the box with a color or a pattern. Stores are bursting with great summer options perfect for wearing under your graduation robe.

As for choosing what’s graduation appropriate, definitely go with something short, so that it’s underneath the robe. Wear something with thicker straps so they don’t fall off your shoulders underneath the robe. Make sure the fabric is light because generally the robes are polyester, aka sweaty. Also, as in as high necklines are right now, make sure it doesn’t look weird sticking out from your robe. Also in regard to the robe, try not to go for a clashing color scheme, or worse (in my opinion) matching.

Spring photo shoot

The other weekend Sarah and I went to some local parks and took some pictures to celebrate Spring and the warm weather. We looked for flowers and good lighting to make the pictures more interesting and we each chose 2 outfits. It’s still early in spring so we didn’t get as much nature in the shots as we originally wanted, but I think the pictures still turned out really well!

Shirt: Mudd at Kohl’s

Leggings: Garage

Shirt: American Eagle

Jeans: American Eagle

Shirt: vintage

Skirt: Pacsun

Dress: cotton on

We took tons more and I love all of them but this post would be about 10 pages long if I posted all the pictures so I figured it was best to just show off my favorites.

Fashion show

My first fashion show was a success! The event was held at a beautiful venue called Macoluso’s near my town, and it benefited a senior class event. Anyone in  my senior class could participate and could choose from categories of sportswear, semi formal, and formal. I decided to make my dress and had an absolute blast!

I based my dress from a Tshirt dress pattern I already had, but I cut the panels individually and sewed the dress in pieces. The top purple section is actually made from an old curtain, and the bottom blue part is a piece of my junior prom dress. My blocking was inspired by the famous Yves Saint Laurent ’60s. I really loved how simple the shape was, but how cool and modern the blocking was.

Life Hack

The other day after I washed a pullover sweatshirt in the wash, I found that the string that pulled the hood closed had come out of the hood. This happens constantly for me whether it be the string of a sweatshirt, a ribbon through the waist of pants, or cording through a bag. Getting the string/ribbon etc. back into its casing is super easy and fast, and totally something everyone should know how to do.

The hack is simple, all you need is a safety pin! Simply attach the pin to the piece of cording, using the pin to lead the cording through the “tunnel” in the fabric. The motion is a repetitive scrunching that should be smooth due to the safety pin. Once you get all the way through the “tunnel” of fabric, un-clip the pin, and you’re done!

Super bowl super style

Lady Gaga absolutely KILLED at the Superbowl last night. Her performance was an awesome show and she had the outfit to match.

The first shot of her up on the roof of the dome in Atelier Versace was absolutely breathtaking. The body suit looked sexy and sleek and was a subtle tribute to the style god himself, David Bowie. Her matching Swarovski-covered boots completed the look to a T. Adding the gold studded jacket was pretty wild but Gaga can do no wrong and she looked even cooler. Her final outfit of the sparkly underwear things and the football style top was also incredibly sexy and cool.

Lady Gaga’s outfits made a total statement and I think her whole show was a 10/10 Superbowl halftime performance!

Italian (in) Lace

Most of the things I post on this blog are about fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, but this post is a little different. Sewing is one of my favorite things to do and I’ve made a bunch of articles of clothing with the use of patterns from brands like McCall’s, Vogue, Simplicity, and a whole bunch more. The fabric store is my favorite place to spend money and I’m always looking for a new project to look for. Recently I found a pattern for a really beautiful bralette. Unfortunately, the lace I needed was hard to find and pretty expensive so I decided not to make it. However, it got my wheels turning and I realized I didn’t need a pattern!

I created this bralette basing the shape off a bathing suit, and using a dress form and my self as a model. Somehow the sizing got a little messed up and ended up a little small, so I gave it to my friend. I’m super happy with the way it turned out and my friend looks beautiful.
