Summer goals

Summer is an opportunity to go crazy and take advantage of free time. I have a habit of sitting around wishing something will happen, rather than actually trying to make something happen. In an attempt to beat boredom I’ve come up with a list of goals to keep me busy these next few months.

Exercise/stretch daily

This should probably be a year-round goal for me, but I always push exercising to the side saying I’m too busy. Stretching is really important and can keep you toned and feeling good. Even just going for a walk around the block counts as exercise. I really want to take advantage of the beautiful weather so walking around town has been my go-to lately.

Go to Bryant park movie

As I mentioned in my Summer solstice post, my friend and I came across the Bryant park movie festival. The event is free, is sponcered by great companies, and can be enjoyed in the middle of beautiful Bryant Park. I’m a huge movie fan so I can’t wait to bring a bunch of my friends, a blanket, and some good food to this event!

College visits

My time in high school is coming to a close! It’s a little scary but I am so so very excited to go to college, so these visits are getting me even more pumped! There are a few colleges I know I want to visit but I know there are some out there that I haven’t even considered so I’m excited for those too.

Along with looking colleges, I have to have enough to get in. I want to major in fashion so a portfolio is needed for my acceptance. I’ve started gathering what I need, bu there’s still a lot for me to do and prepare for.

Eat fruit/veggies everyday

I will never be able to give up snack food, it’s just not possible for me. That being said, I know there needs to be a balance in my diet so I’ve made a deal with my self. For every snack food I eat, I will eat a fruit or veggie with it. I’m big on contrasting flavors so this so far has resulted in chips with strawberries and mini muffins with carrots. A little weird yes, but summer is such a good time for fresh fruit so it’s not exactly torture.

Learn to drive stick shift

This is my biggest goal of the summer! I got my license this January, and I absolutely love driving. I share a car with my mom though, so sometimes it’s annoying when I can’t go out because she needs the car. My sister has her own car, but it’s not automatic! If I learn to drive a stick I will definitely be able to go out more, plus I will look pretty cool in my sister’s sporty car rather than my mom’s mom mobile haha. I also think it’s necessary to know how to drive manual as well as automatic no matter where you live, because it teaches you to be more aware of the road and of your own driving skills.

Summer solstice

Happy Summer! Yesterday, the Summer Solstice occurred, and to celebrate I attended the Summer Solstice Yoga event in Timesquare. Fun fact this happens to be one of the first things I ever blogged about, so go me for one year!!! Check out my original post here! This year was extremely fun and filled with yoga, free stuff, and good food, just like the last.

The main sponsor this year was not Athleta like past years, but Gaiam. The yoga mats are given out at the even whether you sign up or not, and the bags filled with great swag are given out as well.

After our yoga class you were invited to wander into yoga village, a little section where all the sponsors advertise. I had never tried  Lorissa’s Kitchen jerky before, it was pretty salty and a little weird but I liked it. There was also Dunkin Donuts, a personal fave of mine so I was super excited to try their new berry smoothie, it was delish.

Casey and I had a great time together! We did take one of the gif pictures with the Timesquare Alliance company, but it didn’t send through to my email so I’m hoping to get it soon! You can find Casey here on Youtube.

After Yoga we were in need of some actual food so we looked to Yelp for help (hah rhymes). We never made it to our original destination, but instead found The city kitchen. We ordered delicious Mediterranean food from Box then finished off with Dough. Both were so so delicious and I was totally stuffed afterwards.

Our day was not over yet! We headed to Bryant park just to chill out and were pleasantly surprised to find out about the Bryant Park film festival. We were too late to find good seats on the grass, plus the movie didn’t start until 9pm, but we grabbed a flyer and took advantage of their free stuff! The photo booth was super cute and the roses being given out were the perfect way to end the day.

Summer food bucket list

Wherever you go, there will always be some legendary food place to divulge in. All over instagram and the food network I see these cool places where the food looks super amazing. This summer I decided because I actually have money to pay for my own (overpriced) instagram worthy food and a license to drive extensive distances, I would make a list of all the places I wanted to try food from.

Theses were being sold at this festival I went to, but I saw them after I was completely stuffed. My friend got them and said they’re amazing.

Doughnuttery donuts

I have seen theses all over Instagram and have been waiting to get my hands on them. As much as I love a classic Dunkin Donuts donut, there is a major difference between those and homemade.

Insomnia cookies

Insomnia cookies are a college kids best friend. My sister has a shop right near her college campus in Athens Ohio, next time I go down there I am totally getting some.

White manna

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives told me about this place. My Aunt used to live by the place and swears by their sliders.

Soco Creamery

Soco is in the same town as my old summer camp and all of my camp friends have been there multiple times. Somehow I never had the chance to visit the legendary icecreamery, so this year when I go up to MA it’s going to be a mandatory stop.

Black tap

This place completely deserves two pictures. I got a shake from there a couple weeks ago and it was the most intense, amazing, filling thing I have ever tasted in my life. That being said, I had no room to try a burger, and vowed to myself I would be back to try one (and have another shake of course!).

Rainbow bagel

Rainbow bagels have been such a thing lately, I figured I should go try one. Disclaimer though, I’m a total bagel snob, so this had better be good.

Pepe’s pizza

Last, but certainty not least, the best pizza in the world. I know, pizza can be very controversial depending on where you’re from, but I’m telling you; it’s the best. I’ve been going to Pepe’s since I was little and each memory is filled with mouthwatering amazingness. Go try Pepe’s, now!!

So none of these are really going to help out that whole “summer body” thing, but they all look extremely delicious so oh well! I can’t wait to go to all these places and fill my insta page with food porn!

Summer wishlist

I have been looking forward to summer all year, but once May came around, I started my countdown. School is in its last full week currently and all my classes are winding down. My down time has mostly been spent on pinterest and online window shopping, giving me tons of cute outfit ideas and reminding me of how few summer clothes i have. With that, I made a wishlist!

Neutrogena spf makeup                                                Tarte waterproof mascara

Aerie bikini                                                                        Cotton on romper

Nike running shorts                                                   Pacsun black denim shorts

Gladiator sandal                                                         Pineapple baseball cap

Graduation gifts

The school year is winding down quickly and with it, the invites for graduation parties are rolling in. A lot of my friends are graduating high school and some of my old camp counselors graduated college! I’m so excited to celebrate with them,  and there are so many cute gift ideas you can give!

The practical one

Find out where your friend is going to college (or if they’re moving/getting a new job) and find a store near there. There is no point buying a Bed bath and beyond gift card if there are only Big Lots in the area! Do a little research and find a gift card to somewhere that you know will be useful, it can help out so much!

The fun one

Put together a basket of their favorite candy, a cute book, some pictures, a decoration or two for their dorm room, and a bunch of other fun stuff. Make this creative, personalize it to the person you’re giving it to.

The themed one

This is mostly for someone going off to college, but find their school colors and have a ball. Mix m&ms of their school colors, get them a stuffed animal of the mascot, a pennant, or even a t-shirt if they don’t already have.

The heartfelt one

Find a cute (and cheap) frame at target, walgreens, or CVS and print out your favorite picture of the two of you. Get a frame with multiple slots for pictures, or just a single one. For the single one, print out a few pictures of you guys and put them in the back of the frame, write a favorite memory on each picture so whenever your friend feels like changing the picture they are reminded of a fun time with you.

Last but not least, don’t forget a card! There are cute ones for sale, you can go online and make one, or you can make one out of construction paper. Cards are my favorite part of the gift, and sometimes last longer than the gift, so make it a good one!

Nail polish cleanse

Nail polish is a fun way to add some color to your outfit and has turned into an awesome art form. Though I’ve never succeeded, I’ve tried many times to do cool nail patterns and designs. My lack of skill never stopped me from swooning over gorgeous colors and buying all sorts of cool looking bottles. Since I was little I have accumulated quite a collection of colors and brands of nail polish. The other day I was staring at my collection and thought “this is gross and wasteful, you don’t even use half these colors!”And so, I decided it was time to clean out my collection.

The OG bunch: a mix of random colors and random brands that I started receiving in about first grade.

The first ditch: I think I got this for my Bat Mitzvah, aka 4 years ago. The Color was really cool but I don’t really wear a lot of green, plus this chipped really easily. As you can see, the consistency of the polish is totally screwed up and not useable anymore

The next ditch: I was obsessed with this color, it is so vibrant and fun and always made my nails look so good. I went through a phase where I literally only wore this hot pink color. Alas, the consistency grew gross over time and the colors separated in the bottle.

All the garbage: These colors were all really old. The sparkle ones were super gloopy and gross and the colors had all separated. Some of them had dried out in the bottle and smelled really weird haha.

The keepers: As you can see, these colors are not as bright and are more known brands> i fully believed that more known brands are better quality in terms of nail polish. I like all these colors and actually do use them, plus it will be a lot easier to find them now that I don’t have to search through all the gross ones.
