braids & eyes

A few weeks ago I went to my cousin’s wedding and unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of my outfit for the actually wedding and my makeup (which I was very proud of so go me :).  Anyways, I was able to find some pictures from the Saturday night rehearsal dinner of my hair and makeup which was still pretty cool.

Saturday morning I flew into Toronto and had kept my hair in braids for the past 2 days.  So by the time I took it out for the dinner it was fairly wavy and with a little hairspray it stayed that way (PSA: Loving the new Tresemme hairspray, it keeps my hair in place without making it stiff ūüôā

For the party I decided to try this new braid I had been thinking of doing (also if you haven’t noticed I’m totally in love with braids)  It’s a combination of a lace braid and a dutch braid.  It takes hair from the top of my head but I braid it in under instead of over and I was thrilled with the result.  Not gonna lie but I decided to use my curling wand on my hair before I started braiding just so it would hold throughout the night.  I use Remington’s curling wand fyi (expect a hair tools post soon!!)

So this was the result of the braid.. Any thoughts? Also if you have any suggestions for me to try out I will totally take you up on that

For makeup I decided to go with a softer eye look, that way I could wear a darker lip color (which I can’t remember right now, whoops)

I used my Naked 3 Palette that night.  I used the color Bootycall all over my lid and then put the color Limit in my crease.  After applying those two color I used my blending brush (from Stila) to soften my crease line.  For my outer v I used Burnout, which is a gold flecked color and it worked really well with the other shadows.

Shopping haul!

I finally made it to the mall to buy some new fall clothing! Plus I got everything on sale so it’s even better!

IMG_7266Everything here was from Pacsun, there was a sale for buy 1 get 2 free! Totally worth it seeing as though all items were originally $45.95 but I got 3 for the price of 1. The top left is a loose maroon hooded knit sweater with a full zipper down the front. Top right is a denim overalls dress with detaching straps and snaps all down the front (plus really deep pockets!). Last is a Gypsy Warrior brand sweater. The actual Gypsy Warrior store is actually really close to me but they don’t have very good sales, so I like to get their products from Pacsun. I am so excited to wear all of these!

I was in desperate need of some new jeans, so I was so happy to find a sale at Wetseal. The sale was buy 1 get one $10.00! I got a dark and a light wash pair because I think it’s good to have a variety of colors in your closet, plus the shade of a jean can totally make or break an outfit. I bought the “boost your booty” type because low rise fits me best, and though the pockets are really small, they are the perfect length and ideal skinny jean style.

IMG_7268Ok so this isn’t clothing but I had to put in my post. Teavana always has free samples, so naturally I stopped there on my way out of the mall. I tried their classic “Youthberry wild orange blossom tea blend” which is a personal favorite of mine. Then I was introduced to one of their holiday blends “White Chocolate Peppermint Rooibos Tea” and was completely blown away. It was perfectly balanced between mint and chocolate and I can’t wait to go back and buy a few oz for the winter months! Check out the Teavana website for even more awesome teas!¬†

L’Or√©al Eyeliner Review

One of my all time favorite drugstore brands is L’Or√©al¬†. ¬†I mostly buy there eyeliner, some of which I love and others that were disappointing. ¬†The three¬†eyeliner types¬†I’ve used are from the¬†Infallible collection, the Lineur Intense collection, and the Telescopic Precision¬†collection.¬†All three have similar tips for application but they work better for different kinds of styles.

The Telescopic Precision is a waterproof eyeliner and it works really well. ¬†I tend to cry when I laugh (which happens a lot!) so it’s perfect to use on a daily basis. ¬†The only problem is that the waterproof formula will stick to your lashes if it’s not applied properly. ¬†This means that you have to close one eye when you apply it. Overall it’s pretty easy to use but you if you’re applying mascara after give the eyeliner a few minutes to dry because it will smudge

The Lineur Intense Liner is probably one of my all time favorites. ¬†It was the first liquid eyeliner that I bought back in 2012. ¬†Oh those 7th grade days (#yikes). ¬†Let’s just say those weren’t my finest days when it came to hair and makeup. ¬†Picture a 5’0 brunette with frizzy straightened hair and eyeliner that was choppier than waves during high tide. ¬†Seriously though, this stuff is great for beginners and with enough practice you can do some pretty cool tricks. ¬†If you’re a crier when you laugh (like me) just be warned that this stuff will come off easily. ¬†Other than that I give it 2 thumbs up.

The Infallible Collection is something I started using pretty recently. ¬†Like it says in the name it’s very slim, which makes it easy to do small lines. ¬†The only issue with this one is that you need to press it down on something before you use it on your eyes. ¬†It’s typically dry on the first swipe but after that you can go to town.

Anyways that’s all for now. ¬†Hope you all are having a fantastic start to fall!

xoxo Sarah E.

p.s. these are all fairly cheap, about 8 or 9 dollars (which isn’t bad for good quality makeup!)

What’s in my purse

I’m actually obsessed with my purse, I bring it everywhere! Bags are the perfect accessory, they are useful, cute, and can totally be personalized.

Currently, I carry around a rust colored pleather bucket style purse from Charming Charlie’s.I got this a few years ago, but they are really in right now so I’m ahead of the trend! Haha, anyway,¬†it does not have any zippers, but the top closes with a tie, and there are a few inner and outer pockets. I don’t really know why I chose orange seeing as though it looks awful with my skin tone, and its hard to find things that go with it, but I was totally drawn to it in the store and I really love it.

Being that the style is “bucket” there is no real organization to the contents of my bag, but it’s small enough that it doesn’t take a while to search. Here’s the many items that I stuff in there on a daily basis!

Basic: My wallet, and the emergency kit from a local boutique. ¬†My wallet holds basic things like money, keys, cards, and coupons. The emergency kit holds anything a girl could ever need, and fits in that small pouch! It is super perfect, though I can’t find the link to the brand I have (mr&mrs), I’ve heard good reviews on this brand too:

(it can also be found on sephora: )

IMG_7218Beauty: For touch-ups and such, these are the easiest and most convenient products.

Revlon grapefruit lip gloss (discontinued)
Bath and body works eucalyptus mint hand sanitizer:

Neutrogena hand cream:
Oil blotting cloths:

I also have a little compact mirror and a clip, but to be honest I don’t remember where I got either…

Safety: Band-aids are a must have, for paper cuts, blisters, you name it, it is always always good to carry band-aids. (Bonus id they’re sparkly like mine!) A pad, for obvi reasons, you never know when mother nature will strike for you or a friend. Kleenex because tissues are literally what I survive on because I alwayIMG_7224s seem to have a runny nose. And last, a mini lint roller. This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, plus I got it for free from a friend. But you can find these in a basic drug/grocery store.

Pen and Paper: I recommend actually having a notebook not just a receipt, but oh well. Just incase your phone dies and you need to take notes on something. Or you happen to meet a celebrity and want their autograph. You know, just in case ūüôāIMG_7225

Sweets: chocolate is a necessity where ever you go. Just keep something small like a Hershey kiss or a dove drop so if you’re feeling down you have a pick-me-up! I also have a starburst incase the chocolate melts, and gum is my go to for bad breath or boredom.

Fun: Ok i’m like 5 and get bored super easily so I need dumb stuff to entertain me. I have a stress ball that I like to play with, and true to its name, helps me to destress. That mummy thing is a finger puppet that I’ve hadIMG_7222 in my purse forever, I don’t really know where or when I got it, but it’s cute and makes me laugh. Last is a little tube of bubbles that I got as a favor at a wedding, I never took them out of my bag, and they make a good conversation starter when I randomly take them out in public.

A lot of designers have come out with bucket purses this season, check them out!

Arial Silks and Pole Dancing

Recently my friends and I started going to a class at a studio specializing in pole dancing, arial silks, and belly dancing. Though I have yet to try belly dancing, I have now pole danced and done arial silks multiple times. Both are incredible workouts that work all parts of your body.

Pole dancing takes mostly arm and core strength to pull yourself up on the pole to spin around it. It also can really tone your legs and butt because a lot of moves require you to wrap your legs around the pole.My arm strength is currently really lacking so my friends were way better than me, but I can’t wait to go back and do it again! I honestly give a lot of credit to people who pole dance for a living because it is hard work.¬†

Arial silks is something I’d never heard of before going to this studio, but now I’m obsessed! What you do is use the hanging silks that are tied to the ceiling and use them to hoist yourself up or spin around. It takes concentration and a bit of fearlessness. Now that I’ve been multiple times, the moves become muscle memory, but it’s cool to learn new moves every time!

I highly recommend both these workouts! The studio I went to is called Wellness on the Green in Morristown NJ, heres the link!

There are also tons in the city to look up, enjoy!

What’s In My School Bag/Morning Routine

5:30 am, Shut Up a and Dance plays and I stumble out of bed to start the day.

Walking like a zombie to the bathroom, I brush my teeth and wash my face with my Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliant Wash. It helps smooth out my skin and wake me up

After finally waking up I change into my school clothes, which consists of either colored pants and a button top or a dress-code appropriate skirt and sweater with a polo underneath (#privateschoolproblems)

Then comes my absolute favorite part of the day… Makeup time!!

I love how precise it is and how much joy I get from it. I’m not one of those girls who feels that she needs makeup before she leaves the house. I’m perfectly fine with leaving the house in leggings, a sweatshirt, a messy bun, and even my glasses. Beauty should NOT be defined as how well you can apply your makeup, beauty is what comes from within and how you treat people. Makeup is like a fun toy to play with, but use it wisely otherwise the results can be disatrous.

Moving onto my school bag

1) Laptop:

I’m given a laptop by my school because most of our work is posted online so if I forget my laptop I’m basically screwed for the entire day

2) Sunglasses:

Because today you never know when the sun will pop out and try to blind you

3) Eyeliner:

I always keep one pencil in my bag in case I need touch ups, mostly I keep a liquid liner in my bag because it’s the easiest and takes the least time to apply, if you have enough experience

4) Mints:

At some point in the day (especially the gross aftertaste breakfast can leave sometimes) I need to pop in a few orange tic tacs or some icebreakers.

5) Brush:

It’s a little weird but I like having a brush in my bag when I straighten my hair because it gets knotty throughout the day which is a pain

6) Money:

This is crucial, you should ALWAYS carry a few dollars with you in case of an emergency

7) IPhone Charger:

Because they lose battery faster than I can apply eyeliner ūüėú

And those are my school bag necessities!

I’m currently working on back to school/fall outfit ideas so stay tuned!

Tips for Stress

Everyone experience it at one point or another, stress. It constantly plagues high school and college students, trying to complete their homework or papers, and even adults struggling with deadlines.

Here are some helpful tips for how to conquer your stress!

1) Music

My go to relaxation after having a bad day or a fight with a friend.  It drowns out all of the thoughts flying around in my head and typically calms me down within a few minutes. When I’m stressing out over schoolwork I’ll typically put on some Fall Out Boy or my new favorite band All Time Low. I’m also currently in the process of creating a destressing playlist so if anyone has suggestions comment below!

2) Netflix

The reason why I constantly procrastinate while writing my papers. It’s always so addictive, I tell myself I’m only watching 5 minutes of a TV show or movie but I always end up finishing it no matter what. But if you can control your Netflix addictions (unlike me) take a break for every 2 assignments you complete (combined some of them will take you a half an our or more) and watch an episode or finish the newest movie on your likes list!

3) Take a Bath

Not everyone might have the luxury of a bathtub but if you do I highly recommend that you use it.  After a long day of studying and sports it’s important to give yourself a break! I love putting in bubble bath, bath salts, or bath bombs from Lush. It’s not always easy to make time for it but when you can definitely take one

4) Talk to Friend!

If you have a good friend group then you have plenty of people who care about you and who will listen to you. When I started ninth grade I changed school systems and went from a public to a private high school that is 40 minutes away from me! That was and still is one of the challenges of developing friendships in high school. Now that I’m a junior I’ve pretty much settled into my friend group and I know I can always count on them.  I actually recently was having some problems that were stressing me out and I had been holding it in for months. Finally I realized I needed to tell someone because it was driving me insane and it was affecting my mood. So I texted one of my best friends and finally let it out and it felt amazing. The moral of the story is don’t let your stress be your enemy, you control it
